The British Glove Association were on hand at last month’s MODA show to offer help, advice and resources for interested retailers looking to purchase gloves. Undoubtedly, for many relying solely on the ‘handwarmer’ aspect of the glove market, a mild winter has made for a difficult year - but those who view this important accessory solely as a ‘handwarmer’ are missing a trick or two!
Without a doubt, gloves are back as the accessory of the moment - riding the wave of smarter dressing habits which see men and women in suits complemented by hats and overcoats again - regardless of weather - and wanting to dress up not down. Gloves are the perfect sign off for any outfit in this regard and can be matched to that other resurgent accessory - the scarf, whichever way it is worn.
Few attending the MODA show would have missed the fact that one of the busiest individual stands at the show was that of BGA member Dents, selling hard their Autumn/Winter collection of gloves, hats, scarves and other accessories. As the weather blurs the seasons, we are seeing more colour in winter gloves and, with a greater emphasis on fashionability, this can extend the selling season. The BGA stand was able to present a wide variety of fashion glove styles from member companies, as well as a selection of sports and industrial gloves, to demonstrate the breadth of the glove market covered by the association. The stand also featured the BGA’s new eyecatching logo.
