Past Competition Winners

09 Aug 2006

The British Glove Association has announced details of its 2007 Student Glove Design Competition.

The British Glove Association's design competition is not only a showcase for the UK's talented students but also a stepping stone to success.

This year's childrenswear category winner Emma Mudford, age 22, from the University of Northampton who designed a cute animal design hat, glove and scarf set was also winner of the prestigious Zandra Rhodes 'Textiles for the Catwalk' award with her Egyptomania collection at London Graduate Fashion Week earlier in the year. She is now off to Dubai where she will work.

Previous year's winner, Katie Hughes from Lincoln University graduated with first class honours in 2005 having won both the faculty's student performance award and the British Glove Association' glove design competition. She will be putting her skills into practice now as she has been appointed as a design assistant for international fashion house Jaeger of London.

It was while studying that Katie got her lucky break.

"The external moderator for the course worked at Jaeger," said Katie. "She saw my work and asked me if I would like to meet her. She invited me to go for an interview and offered me the position."

"I still can't believe I've got a job working for a major fashion designer. It's something I've always wanted to do and spent my whole degree working towards."
