What's New?

Recent developments in this area of hand protection relate primarily to improved performance of raw materials. In particular new types of leather have been introduced by BGA members to meet the operational and training requirements of the military and emergency services, including:

  • Flame-retardant leather, such as FIREBLOC™ and PYROHIDE® combining heat and water-resistance.
  • Chemical-resistant leather, such as PARADOS™ and PYROHIDE® combing chemical, petrol, oil and water-resistance.
  • camouflage (DPM) leather to various national military patterns with optional IRR treatment (Infra-Red Reflective) specifically for military use (not available commercially).
Increasing use is being made of high performance yarns and fabrics to offer improved levels of protection to the services without compromising flexibility and dexterity. Current developments in design include a new generation combat glove.
